1. Mumbai, Maharashtra - Mumbai is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India and the ninth most populous agglomeration in the world, with an estimated city population of 18.4 million. Mumbai is the financial, commercial and entertainment capital of India. It is also one of the world's top ten centres of commerce in terms of global financial flow, generating 6.16% of India's GDP. Mumbai's business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attract migrants from all over India, making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures.

2. Gandhinagar, Gujarat - Gandhinagar is the capital of the state of Gujarat in Western India. Gandhinagar is located approximately 23 km north of Ahmedabad. The city sits on the banks of the Sabarmati River, in north-central-east Gujarat. Thirty sectors, into which the city has been divided, stretch around the central Government complex. Each sector has its own shopping and community center, primary school, health center, government and private housing.

3. Delhi, National Capital Territory - Delhi officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is the capital territory of the Republic of India. The Parliament of India, the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace), Cabinet Secretariat and the Supreme Court of India are located in Delhi. Delhi is the largest commercial centre in northern India. Delhi has one of India's largest and fastest growing retail industries.

4. Ranchi, Jharkhand – Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi is located in the southern part of the Chota Nagpur plateau, which is the eastern section of the Deccan plateau. Ranchi is known as the "City of Waterfalls" because of its numerous waterfalls, the most well known of which are Dassam Falls, Hundru Falls, Jonha Falls, Hirni Falls and Panchghagh Falls.

5. Jaipur, Rajasthan – Jaipur is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan in Northern India. It was founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amer after whom the city is named. Jaipur is also known as the Pink City of India. The economy of Jaipur is fuelled by tourism, gemstone cutting, the manufacture of jewellery and luxury textiles and information technology. Jaipur is a major hub for arts and crafts.

6. Chandigarh (Union Territory) - Chandigarh is a city and a union territory in the northern part of India that serves as the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana. As a union territory, the city is ruled directly by the Union Government and is not part of either state. The city of Chandigarh was one of the early planned cities in the post-independence India and is known internationally for its architecture and urban design.

7. Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh - Bhopal is the capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and the administrative headquarters of Bhopal district and Bhopal division. Bhopal is known as the City of Lakes for its various natural as well as artificial lakes and is also one of the greenest cities in India. The major industries in the city are electrical goods, medicinal, cotton, chemicals and jewellery. Handicrafts, like zardozi and batua are some of the products of the city.

8. Bhubaneshwar, Odisha - Bhubaneshwar is the capital of the Indian state of Odisha. It is the largest city in Odisha and is a centre of economic and religious importance in Eastern India. Bhubaneswar is an administrative, information technology, education and tourism city. Bhubaneswar was ranked as the best place to do business in India by the World Bank in 2014. Bhubaneswar has emerged as one of the fast-growing, important trading and commercial hub in the state and eastern India.

9. Shimla, Himachal Pradesh – Shimla is the capital and also the largest city of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, located in northern India. In 1864, Shimla was declared as the summer capital of British India. The colonial architecture and churches, the temples and the natural beauty of the city attract a large number of tourists. The hotel industry is one of the major source of income generation for the city. Shimla leads the list of Indian cities with the highest ranked hotels.

10. Dehradun, Uttarakhand – Dehradun is the capital city of the state of Uttarakhand in the northern part of India. Located in the Garhwal region. Dehradun is in the Doon Valley on the foothills of the Himalayas nestled between two of India's mightiest rivers — the Ganges on the east and the Yamuna on the west. The city is famous for its picturesque landscape and slightly milder climate.

Thiruvananthapuram was an trading post for spices, sandalwood and ivory. Thiruvananthapuram contributes nearly 80% of the state's software exports and is a major IT hub. Thiruvananthapuram is a popular destination for tourists.

13. Puducherry, Puducherry (Union Territory) - Puducherry formerly known as Pondicherry is a Union Territory of India. It was formed out of four enclaves of former French India. Puducherry lies in the southern part of the Indian Peninsula. Puducherry is one of the most popular tourist spots for national and international tourists. There are several temples, churches, monuments, parks and mosques which attract tourists.

14. Patna, Bihar - Patna is the capital and largest city of the state of Bihar in India. Patna is the second largest city in eastern India after Kolkata. Patna is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. Patna was founded in 490 BCE by the king of Magadha. Ancient Patna, known as Pataliputra.

15. Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh - Hyderabad is the capital of the southern Indian state of Telangana and de jure capital of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad was historically known as a pearl and diamond trading centre and it continues to be known as the City of Pearls.

16. Daman, Diu & Daman (Union Territory) - Daman is a capital city and a municipal council in Daman district in the union territory of Daman & Diu. Daman is divided by the Daman Ganga River into two parts, namely Nani-daman and Moti-daman. It was a Portuguese colony for over 400 years until december 1961, when it was incorporated with India.

17. Panaji, Goa - Panaji usually known as Panjim is the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district. It lies on the banks of the Mandovi River. Panaji is the first city in India to be built on a planned grid system.

18. Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir – Srinagar is the largest city and the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus. The city is famous for its gardens, waterfronts and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dried fruits. Srinagar is one of several places that have been called the "Venice of the East".
