Spectrum Chart - 217 : Rodents

  1. House Mouse - House Mouse is a small mammal of the order Rodentia, characteristically having a pointed snout, small rounded ears and a long naked or almost hairless tail. The house mouse has been domesticated as the pet or fancy mouse.
  2. Fox Squirrel - Fox Squirrel, also known as the eastern fox squirrel is the largest species of tree squirrel native to North America. Fox squirrels have excellent vision and well developed senses of hearing and smell. Fox squirrels use leaf nests or tree cavities for shelter.
  3. Capybara - Capybara live in Central and South America. They like water and they can be found in swampy areas, near lakes, ponds, rivers. They have barrel-shaped body covered with brown wiry fur. They are herbivores. They graze grass and eat aquatic plants most of the night. They also eat fruit and bark of the tree. Adult animal eats 8 pounds of grass per day.
  4. White Mouse – A white mouse is a small rodent characteristically having a pointed snout, small rounded ears, a body-length scaly tail and a high breeding rate. They are largely herbivores, consuming any kind of fruit or grain from plants. Many people buy white mouse as companion pets.
  5. Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel – Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel is a type of ground squirrel found in mountainous areas of western North America. The golden-mantled ground squirrel can be identified by its chipmunk-like stripes and coloration, but unlike a chipmunk, it lacks any facial stripes. It is a traditional hibernator, building up its body fat so to survive the winter asleep. It eats seeds, nuts, berries, insects and underground fungi.
  6. Beaver - Beaver is one of the largest rodents in the world. They spend part of their life in the water and part on the ground. Waterproof fur prevents beavers from freezing in the water; their webbed feet serve as fins and flat tail as paddle, which all together provides efficient moving through the water. Beavers are herbivores animals.
  7. Porcupine - Porcupines are rodents. They live in America, Africa, Europe and Asia. Body of the porcupine is covered with sharp spines or quills. Porcupines can't shoot out their quills, but they will be easily released when predators get it touch with animal. Porcupines are nocturnal animals. They are herbivorous animals. They like to eat leaves, stem, bark, fruit.
  8. Chipmunk - Chipmunk is a type of ground squirrel. Chipmunks live in deciduous forests, woodlands, shrubs and in gardens. They are covered with red or greyish-brown fur with light and dark stripes on their back, sides and head. They have fluffy tail that can reach 3 to 5 inches in length. Chipmunks are omnivores. They live mainly in the underground burrows.
  9. Patagonian Cavy - Patagonian Cavy is a relatively large rodent in the mara genus. It is also known as the Patagonian Mara. This herbivorous, somewhat rabbit-like animal is found in open and semi-open habitats in Argentina only. It has distinctive long ears and long limbs. Its hind limbs are longer and more muscular than its forelimbs.
  10. Brown Rat - Brown rat is one of the best known and most common rats. This rodent has now spread to all continents except Antarctica. Brown rat is a true omnivore and will consume almost anything, but cereals form a substantial part of its diet.
  11. Marmot – Marmots are large squirrels in the genus Marmota. Marmots typically live in burrows and hibernate there through the winter. Marmots mainly eat greens and many types of grasses, berries, lichens, mosses, roots and flowers.
  12. Mole - Moles are a small mammals that are most well known for living in tunnels underground. Moles have long, curved claws which the moles use to burrow underground. Moles are omnivores that primarily feed and hunt earthworms. Due to their small size, moles are preyed about by mammals, birds and reptiles when the moles are above ground.
  13. Flying Squirrel - Flying squirrel is a type of squirrel best known for its ability to "fly". They can be found in deciduous, coniferous or mixed type of forest. Fur on their backs and sides is brown to grey, and white on the belly. Tail is flattened and large. It is used as a rudder when they glide through the air. They do not actually fly, they glide through the air. Flying squirrels are nocturnal & omnivores creatures.
  14. Woodchuck – Woodchuck also known as groundhog, is the largest member of the squirrel family. Body is covered with greyish to brown fur. Coat consists of two layers: dense undercoat and long coarse hairs on the surface. They have small ears, large incisors and strong jaws. They have short legs and 6 inches long tail. Their spine is curved.
  15. Prairie Dog - Prairie Dog is a type of ground squirrel. They can be found in the North America, Canada and Mexico. Prairie dog lives in open grasslands and prairies. Body of prairie dog is covered with brownish-grey fur. They have very small, round ears and short tail.
