Spectrum Chart - 370 : Ports of India

1. Mumbai Dock - Mumbai dock is a port which lies midway on the west coast of India, on the natural deep-water harbour of Mumbai. The harbour spread over 400 square kilometres is protected by the mainland of Konkan to its east and north and by the island city of Mumbai to its west. The port is administered by the Mumbai Port Trust. Mumbai Port has three enclosed wet docks.

2. Chennai Port - Chennai Port, formerly known as Madras Port, is the second largest container port of India, behind the Nhava Sheva Port and the largest port in the Bay of Bengal. It is the third oldest port among the 12 major ports of India with official port operations beginning in 1881. The port has become a hub port for containers, cars and project cargo in the east coast of India.

3. Visakhapatnam Port - Visakhapatnam Port is one of 13 major ports in India and the only major port of Andhra Pradesh. It is India's second largest port by volume of cargo handled. Visakhapatnam Port has three harbours - the outer harbour, inner harbour and the fishing harbour. Iron ore, manganese ore, steel products, general cargo, coal and crude oil are the main commodities handled at this port.

4. Kandla Port - Kandla Port is a seaport in Kutch District of Gujarat state in western India, near the city of Gandhidham. Located on the Gulf of Kutch, it is one of major ports on west coast. It is the largest port of India by volume of cargo handled. Port of Kandla is India's hub for exporting grains and importing oil and one of the highest-earning ports in the country. Major imports entering the Port of Kandla are petroleum, chemicals and iron and steel and iron machinery, but it also handles salt, textiles and grain.

5. Cochin Shipyard - Cochin Shipyard is one of the major shipbuilding and maintenance facilities in India. It is part of a line of maritime-related facilities in the port-city of Kochi. Of the services provided by the shipyard are building platform supply vessels and double-hulled oil tankers. Presently it is building the first range of indigenous aircraft carriers for the Indian Navy.

6. Okha Port – Okha port is a busy and historical port in Gujarat. Historically it was the first port on west coast of India that a ship travelling along the coast from Arabia encountered. Indian Navy, Indian Coastguard, Indian Customs and Gujarat marine police have their operational command centre in Okha. Okha port imports mainly lignite from the Indonesia for the thermal power stations of Gujarat.

7. New Mangalore Port - New Mangalore Port is a the deep-water, all-weather port at Panambur, Mangalore in Karnataka state. It is the only major port of Karnataka and is currently the seventh largest port in India. The major commodities exported through the port are iron ore concentrates & pellets, iron ore fines, manganese, granite stones, coffee, cashew and containerised cargo. The major imports of the port are crude and petroleum products, LPG, wood pulp, timber logs, finished fertilisers, liquid ammonia, phosphoric acid, other liquid chemicals, containerised cargo etc.

8. Veraval Port - Port of Veraval lies on the southwestern coast of the Kathiawar Peninsula on the Arabian Sea in the state of Gujarat in northwestern India. It is home to one of India’s biggest fishing ports. Veraval was the major seaport for pilgrims to Mecca. Its importance now is as a fishing port, one of the largest in India. Sea going dhows and wooden fishing boats are still being built in port.

9. Mundra Port - Mundra Port is the largest private port of India located on the north shores of the Gulf of Kutch near Mundra, Kutch district, Gujarat. Formerly it was operated by Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Limited (MPSEZ) owned by Adani Group. In 2013-2014, Mundra Port has handled 100 million tonnes of cargo in a year becoming the first Indian port to do so. It also became India's biggest port by cargo handled. Mundra Port offers inland connectivity via rail track, road network, airport and cross country pipelines.

10. Nhava Sheva Port - Nhava Sheva port is the largest container port in India. Located east of Mumbai in Maharashtra, the port on the Arabian Sea is accessed via Thane Creek. Port accounts for more than half of total container volumes handled at India's 12 public ports and around 40 percent of the nation's overall containerized ocean trade. Major exports from the port are textiles, sporting goods, carpets, textile machinery, boneless meat, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The main imports are chemicals, machinery, plastics, electrical machinery, vegetable oils and aluminium and other non-ferrous metals.

11. Paradip Port - Paradip Port is an artificial, deep-water port on the East coast of India in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. It is situated at confluence of the Mahanadi river and the Bay of Bengal. Paradip Port has 20 berths with a minimum draft of 13 metres. It can accommodate vessels up to 90,000 DWT.

12. Alang Ship Breaking Yard - Alang is a major worldwide centre for ship breaking. Ship breaking yards at Alang recycle approximately half of all ships salvaged around the world. It is considered the world's largest graveyard of ships. The yards are located on the Gulf of Khambat, 50 kilometres southeast of Bhavnagar. The longest ship ever built, Seawise Giant, was sailed to and beached here for demolition in December 2009.
