Spectrum Chart - 518 : Oil (Petroleum)

1. Crude Oil – Crude Oil is a naturally occurring thick, yellow-to-black liquid found in geological formations beneath the Earth's surface, which is commonly refined into various types of fuels. It is a natural material mainly made of hydrocarbons. Most of it is found by drilling down through rocks on land or off-shore on the continental shelf.

2. Liquefied Petroleum Gas - Liquefied petroleum gas are flammable mixtures of hydrocarbon gases used as fuel in heating appliances, cooking equipment and vehicles. LPG has a very wide variety of uses, mainly used for cylinders across many different markets as an efficient fuel container in the agricultural, recreation, hospitality, calefaction, construction, sailing and fishing sectors.

3. Butane Gas – Butane is an alkane. Butanes are highly flammable, colourless, easily liquefied gases. Butane gas is sold in canisters, for cooking and camping. It is also used as fuel in cigarette lighters, and as propellant in aerosol sprays or deodorants. Some kinds of Butane are used in refrigerators. Butane is dangerous. Inhalation can lead to death by asphyxiation. Contact with the skin can lead to frostbite. If the liquid comes in contact with the air, it will explode.

4. Kerosene - Kerosene is a combustible hydrocarbon liquid widely used as a fuel in industry and households. Kerosene is made from crude oil. It may be used as fuel for lamps, in some kinds of cooking stoves and in heaters. Kerosene is also used in the fuel for jet engines. Kerosene is used as cooking fuel in India.

5. Diesel - Diesel fuel is a type of fuel for cars. It is also an oil used for an energy source. It is made from petroleum and from various other sources. Diesel fuel is widely used in most types of transportation. Trucks and buses are almost exclusively diesel-powered. Diesel displaced coal and fuel oil for steam-powered rail vehicles.

6. Petrol (Gasoline) – Petrol (Gasoline) is a toxic, clear liquid that is mostly used as a fuel in internal combustion engines. It is made by boiling crude oil. In a distillation process, petroleum is heated to a very high temperature, then it separates into its components, one of them is gasoline. Petrol is most often used in vehicles like cars, vans, etc. Petrol can be used in a wide variety of other things that we use every day, such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers and small boat motors.

7. Fuel Oil - Fuel oil is a fraction obtained from petroleum distillation, either as a distillate or a residue at the oil refinery. Fuel oil is made of long hydrocarbon chains, particularly alkanes, cycloalkanes and aromatics.

8. Aviation Fuel / Jet Fuel - Jet fuel, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) is a type of aviation fuel designed for use in aircraft powered by gas-turbine engines. It is colourless to straw-coloured in appearance. The most commonly used fuels for commercial aviation are Jet A and Jet A-1, which are produced to a standardised international specification.
