liquid or semi-liquid foods, such as soup, stew or ice cream. Spoons
are also used in food preparation to measure, mix, stir and toss
ingredients.
3. Knife – A knife is a metal tool with
a sharpened metal blade that is used to cut all sorts of things. A
knife is a tool with a cutting edge or blade, hand-held or otherwise,
with most having a handle. It is commonly used to cut or chop various
food items like vegetables, fruits etc. Different types of knives are
available for cutting different food items.
4. Fork – A fork is a tool for eating.
It has points called tines. Most forks have three or four tines. Some
cooking-forks have two tines. The tines help you pick up your food.
Forks are useful only for eating solid food. Most forks are made of
metal. Some are made of plastic or wood.
5. Refrigerator - A refrigerator is a
machine for keeping things cold. It is sometimes called a fridge or
an icebox. People put food and drinks in it, to keep those items cold
or good (unspoiled) for a longer time. Refrigeration is an essential
food storage technique in developed countries. The lower temperature
lowers the reproduction rate of bacteria, so the refrigerator reduces
the rate of spoilage. The refrigerator allows to keep food fresh for
longer than before.
6. Dinnerware - Dinnerware is term used to
refer to tableware and crockery refers to ceramic dishes in everyday
use as differentiated them from the fine porcelain and bone china.
Dinnerware includes the set of dishes, cutlery and glassware used for
formal and informal dining.
7. Kitchen – A kitchen is a room or part
of a room used for cooking and food preparation in a home or in a
commercial establishment. A modern residential kitchen is typically
equipped with a stove, a sink with hot and cold running water, a
refrigerator, counters and kitchen cabinets arranged according to a
modular design. Many households have a microwave oven, a dishwasher
and other electric appliances. The main function of a kitchen is
serving as a location for storing, cooking and preparing food.
8. Vessels – Vessels are types of food
preparation containers, commonly found in a kitchen. Vessels
comprises cooking vessels, such as saucepans and frying pans,
intended for use on a stove or range cooktop. Vessels also include
various containers used to serve or keep the food items like bowls,
cups etc.
9. Gas Stove – A gas stove is a
cooker/stove which uses natural gas, propane, butane, liquefied
petroleum gas or other flammable gas as a fuel source. Gas stoves are
generally more energy and cost effective than their electric
counterparts. Using a gas stove can cut your cooking energy costs by
more than one-half.
10. Gas Lighter – A gas lighter is a
device which is used to ignite the gas stove. It is used in gas
stoves which do not have automatic ignition systems. It uses a
physical phenomenon called piezo-electric effect to generate an
electric spark which ignites the combustible gas from the stove
burner.
11. Pressure Cooker – A pressure cooker
is a type of pot with a very tight lid. As the liquid in the cooker
gets hot, pressure rises. Higher pressure results in a higher boiling
point. Pressure cookers allow cooking at higher temperatures, which
allows faster cooking. Pressure cookers are available in different
capacities for cooking larger or smaller amounts, with 6 litres'
capacity being common. The maximum capacity of food is less than the
advertised capacity because pressure cookers can only be filled up to
2/3 full, depending on ingredients and liquid.
12. Grinder - A grinder is a kitchen
utensil which uses a gear-driven mechanism to rotate a set of beaters
in a bowl containing the food to be prepared. It automates the
repetitive tasks of stirring, whisking or beating. When the beaters
are replaced by a dough hook, a mixer may also be used to knead. A
typical home grinder will include a wire whisk for whipping creams
and egg whites, a flat beater for mixing batters and a dough hook for
kneading.
13. Mixer - A mixer is a kitchen appliance
used to mix, puree or emulsify food and other substances. A
stationary blender consists of a blender jar with a rotating metal
blade at the bottom, powered by an electric motor in the base. Some
powerful models can also crush ice. The newer immersion blender
configuration has a motor on top connected by a shaft to a rotating
blade at the bottom, which can be used with any container.
14. Food Processor – A food processor is
a kitchen appliance used to facilitate repetitive tasks in the
preparation of food. Today, the term almost always refers to an
electric-motor-driven appliance, although there are some manual
devices also referred to as "food processors". Food
processors are similar to blenders in many forms. The primary
difference is that food processors use interchangeable blades and
disks rather than a fixed blade.
15. Blender - The hand blender or stick
blender has no container of its own, but instead has a mixing head
with rotating blades that can be immersed in a container. Handheld
blenders are ideal for small and specific tasks. Hand blenders are
convenient for homogenizing volumes that are too large to fit in the
bowl of a stationary blender or as in the case of soups.
16. Utensils – A kitchen utensil is a
hand-held, typically small tool or utensil that is used in the
kitchen, for food-related functions. Utensils can be organized into
several categories depending on their function and the kind of
cooking that is done. The categories include preparation equipment
pots, pans, frying pans and cauldrons, griddles and equipment for
roasting and baking, utensils for tabletop cooking and utensils used
for charcuterie.
17. Cookwares – Cookwares are a kitchen
appliances used to cook food like air fryers, food steamers etc. An
air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks by circulating hot air
around the food. Air fryers are a healthier alternative to
traditionally deep fried foods. A food steamer is a small kitchen
appliance used to cook or prepare various foods with steam heat by
means of holding the food in a sealed vessel that limits the escape
of air or liquids below a preset pressure.
18. Fry Pan – A frypan is a flat-bottomed
pan used for frying, searing and browning foods. It is typically 200
to 300 mm in diameter with relatively low sides that flare outwards,
a long handle. Larger pans may have a small grab handle opposite the
main handle. The cooking surface of a frying pan is typically coated
with a layer of oil or fat when the pan is in use. In pan-frying, a
layer of oil has four functions: it lubricates the surface, increases
contact between the food and the pan & acts as a thermal mass to
reduce cooking time and increases flavour and colour.
19. Sandwich Toaster - A sandwich toaster
is a cooking appliance that consists of two hinged concave, round or
square, metal plates on long handles. The appliance is used to heat,
toast and seal a sandwich of two slices of bread and a filling.
20. Bread Toaster - A bread toaster or a
toast maker, is a small electric appliance designed to brown or singe
sliced bread by exposing it to radiant heat, thus converting it into
toast. Bread slices are inserted into slots in the top of a pop-up
toaster, which make toast from bread in one to three minutes by using
electric heating elements. Toasters have a control to adjust how much
the appliance toasts the bread.
21. Sink – A sink is a bowl shaped
plumbing fixture used for washing hands, dish washing and other
purposes. Sinks have taps (faucets) that supply hot and cold water
and may include a spray feature to be used for faster rinsing. They
also include a drain to remove used water, this drain may itself
include a strainer and/or shut-off device and an overflow-prevention
device. Sinks may also have an integrated soap dispenser.
22. Microwave Oven - A microwave oven is a
kitchen appliance that heats and cooks food by exposing it to
microwave radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum. Microwave ovens
are popular for reheating previously cooked foods and cooking a
variety of foods. They are also useful for rapid heating of otherwise
slowly prepared cooking items, such as hot butter, fats and
chocolate. A microwave oven is one of the fastest ways of cooking.
23. Cooking Range - Cooking range is a
kitchen appliance designed for cooking food. Kitchen stoves rely on
the application of direct heat for the cooking process and may also
contain an oven, used for baking. Modern kitchen stoves may use
alternative methods for heating food. Today's major brands offer both
gas and electric stoves and many also offer dual-fuel stoves
combining gas and electric cooktops.
24. Slicer – Slicers are kitchen
appliances used for cutting vegetables, such as zucchinis, potatoes,
cucumbers, carrots, apples, beetroots etc into a smaller pieces. In
slicer, vegetables are clamped between the blade and crank. As the
handle turns with a bit of pressure, the vegetable is pressed between
the turning handle and the blade, which cuts it into spirals.
25. Dust Bin - Dustbins are containers that
are designed for holding waste till it is disposed off or otherwise
removed. Using dustbins is an effective way of reducing trash and
keeping your environment clean.
