New Delhi (India) – New
Delhi, is the capital territory of the Republic of India. It is
located on the banks of the Yamuna River. It is the second most
populous city in India. It has a population of about 16.3 million,
making it the second most populous city and second most populous
urban agglomeration in India and 3rd largest urban area
in the world. Delhi and its urban region have been given the
special status of National Capital Region. Delhi has hosted many
major international sporting events, including the 1st and also the
9th Asian Games in 1951 & 1982 respectively, the 2010 Hockey
World Cup & the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Washington D.C. (U.S.A.) -
Washington, D.C. is the capital city of the United States of
America. Washington was named after the first U.S. President, George
Washington. The "D.C." stands for "District of
Columbia." Washington D.C. is the home of all three branches of
the U.S. Government : Congress, the President and the Supreme Court.
It is also the home of the World Bank, the International Monetary
Fund (IMF).
London (United Kingdom) –
London is the capital and most populous city of England and the
United Kingdom. It is located on the River Thames in the south east
of the island of Great Britain. London is a leading global city in
the arts, commerce, education, finance, entertainment, fashion,
healthcare, media, research and development, tourism and transport.
It is one of the world's leading financial centres. In 2012, London
became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three
times.
Paris (France) – Paris is
the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the river
Seine in the north of the France. Paris is also the centre of French
economy, politics, traffic and culture. Paris has many art museums
and historical buildings. The Eiffel Tower is the most famous sight
in Paris. Over 6 million people visit it every year.
Moscow (Russia) – Moscow
is the capital city of Russia. Moscow is situated on the Moskva
River. Moscow is a major political, economic, cultural and
scientific centre of Russia and Eastern Europe, as well as the
largest city entirely on the European continent. The city is well
known for its architecture, particularly its historic buildings such
as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its brightly coloured domes. With
over 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, it is one of
the greenest capitals.
Islamabad (Pakistan) –
Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan located in the Pothohar
Plateau in the northeastern part of the country, between Rawalpindi
District and the Margalla Hills National Park to the north.
Islamabad was built during the 1960's to replace Karachi as
Pakistan's capital. The city is home to the Faisal Mosque, the
largest mosque in South Asia and the fourth largest mosque in the
world.
Colombo (Sri Lanka) –
Colombo is the commercial capital and largest city of Sri Lanka. It
is the financial centre of the island and a popular tourist
destination. It is located on the west coast of the island and
adjacent to Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, the legislative capital of
Sri Lanka.
Kathmandu (Nepal) -
Kathmandu is the capital and largest municipality of Nepal. The city
stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres in the
bowl-shaped Kathmandu Valley of central Nepal. Kathmandu is the
gateway to tourism in Nepal. It is also the hub of the country's
economy. It has the most advanced infrastructure of any urban area
in Nepal. It also hosts the headquarters of the South Asian
Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) -
Kuala Lumpur is the national capital and most populous global city
in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is the cultural, financial and economic
centre of Malaysia. It is among the fastest growing metropolitan
regions in South-East Asia, in terms of population and economy.
Kuala Lumpur is home to the tallest twin buildings in the world, the
Petronas Twin Towers, which have become an iconic symbol of
Malaysia's futuristic
development.
Tokyo (Japan) - Tokyo is
both the capital and largest city of Japan. Tokyo is the center of
business, trade and industry of Japan and also of Asia. Tokyo has
the largest metropolitan economy in the world. Tokyo is a major
international finance center, houses the headquarter of several of
the world's largest investment banks and insurance companies. Tokyo
has been described as one of the three "command centers"
for the world economy, along with New York City and London.
Naypyidaw (Myanmar) -
Naypyidaw is the capital city of Myanmar, also known as Burma. It is
administered as the Naypyidaw Union Territory, as per the
Constitution. It first became the capital of Myanmar in 2006, after
the government decided to move the capital from Yangon with minimal
explanation. Much of this planned city is still under construction.
Canberra (Australia) –
Canberra is the capital city of Australia. It is Australia's largest
inland city and the eighth-largest city overall. As the seat of the
government of Australia, Canberra is the site of Parliament House,
the official residence of the Monarch's representative the
Governor-General, the High Court and numerous government departments
and agencies.
Berlin (Germany) – Berlin
is the capital city of Germany. It is also the biggest city in
Germany. Located in northeastern Germany on the banks of Rivers
Spree and Havel, it is the centre of the Berlin-Brandenburg
Metropolitan Region. Berlin is a world city of culture, politics,
media and science. Its economy is based on high-tech firms and the
service sector. Berlin is home to world renowned universities,
orchestras, museums, entertainment venues and is host to many
sporting events.
Rome (Italy) - Rome is the
capital city of Italy and of the Lazio region. The city is located
in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within
Lazio, along the shores of Tiber river. The Vatican City an
independent country geographically located within the city
boundaries of Rome, is the only existing example of a country within
a city. Rome has the status of a global city. Its historic centre is
listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Monuments and museums such
as the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum are among the world's most
visited tourist destinations.
Beijing (China) – Beijing
is the capital of the People's Republic of China and the world's
third most populous city proper. Beijing is the second largest
Chinese city by urban population after Shanghai and is the nation's
political, cultural and educational center. It is a major hub for
the national highway, expressway, railway and high-speed rail
networks. The Beijing Capital International Airport is the second
busiest in the world by passenger traffic.
