Eiffel Tower (Paris, France)
- Eiffel Tower is a famous landmark in Paris. It was built between
1887 and 1889 for the Exposition Universelle. The tower is 324
metres tall, about the same height as an 81-storey building.
Stonehenge (Wiltshire, United
Kingdom) – Stonehenge is a prehistoric World Heritage Site in
Wiltshire, England. It is made of a henge, with standing stones in
circles. Archaeologists believe it was constructed from 3000 BC to
2000 BC.
Taj Mahal (Agra, India) -
Taj Mahal is known as a symbol of love. Taj Mahal was built by the
Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Construction of Taj Mahal took 22 years & was completed in 1653.
The Great Wall of China (China)
– The Great Wall of China is an ancient wall in China. The wall is
made of cement, rocks and powered dirt. It was built to protect the
north of the empire of China from enemy attacks. It is the longest
structure humans have ever built. It is about 21,196 kilometres
long, 9.1 metres (30 feet) wide and 15 metres (50 feet) high.
Easter Island (Chile) –
Easter Island is famous for its 887 huge statues called Moai, made
by the early Rapa Nui people. Easter Island a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. Much of the island is protected in the Rapa Nui National Park.
The Sphinx & Pyramid (Giza,
Egypt) - The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of
the three pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex bordering what is now
El Giza, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient
World and the only one to remain largely intact.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa
(Pisa, Italy) – The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a building in
Pisa, Italy. It is a bell tower. It is famous because it is not
vertical. The height of the tower is about 56 metres from the
ground. Its weight is about 14,500 tonnes. It now leans at about
3.99 degrees.
Mount Rushmore (Keystone, USA)
- Mount Rushmore is a famous mountain and memorial near Keystone,
South Dakota in the United States. It has the heads of four of
America's presidents carved on it : George Washington, Thomas
Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The entire
memorial covers 1,278.45 acres and is 5,725 feet above sea level.
The Parthenon (Athens, Greece)
– The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis,
Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena. It was built between 447 BC
and 432 BC during the reign of Pericles.
The Colosseum (Rome, Italy)
– The Colosseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is
a large amphitheatre in the city of Rome. The construction of the
Colosseum started around 70—72 AD and was finished in 80 AD. It
had seating for 50,000 people.
The Abu Simel Temples (Egypt)
– The Abu Simbel temples are two very large rock temples at Abu
Simbel a village in Nubia, southern Egypt, near the border with
Sudan. The complex is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known
as the "Nubian Monuments"
Chichen Itza (Yucatan, Mexico)
- Chichén Itzá is a large Mayan city famous for a large,
pyramid temple built by the Maya civilization. El Castillo is the
largest pyramid at Chichen Itza and dedicated to Kukulkan, the
Plumed Serpent.
